  1. GO TO THE DOCTOR.. PINK EYE IS EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS!

  2. My partner had conjunctivitis when our son was only a couple of months old. He washed his hands regulary and bathed his eyes in water twice a day. Also he was prescribed drops by the GP which helped to clear it up.

  3. Yes, I know a few people who have had pink eye when they had to handle a baby.  You are correct in that handwashing is the most important factor.  Get some of the hand sanitizer and use that.  You can also buy gloves at the drug store and use them until your infection clears up.

Pink eye can show up when you least expect it, and it is very contagious. There is more than one type of pink eye, and how you treat it depends on the type. If it is bacterial you need antibiotic ointment or drops, and there are no home remedies that will treat it. There is no particular treatment for viral pink eye. If it is an allergy that is causing your difficulty you may need anti-inflammatory medication or antihistamines. Frequent hand washing is crucial to prevent spreading the virus or bacteria, depending on which type you have.   There is also something called CLARE, or contact lens induced acute red eye. Sleeping in contacts makes the eye more susceptible to inflammation/infection.
