  1. Your problem will NOT be resolved by "lubricating" your intestines.  It just doesn't work that way, but I'm sure there are a bunch of radicalized nit-wits would would love to sell you some olive oil to drink.  YUK!!

One of the more recent approaches to treating IBS has been with the use of dietary supplemental fiber (i.e. Benefiber, Citrucel, Metamucil, and the like).  With continued use, I have had many patients say that it was very helpful to their digestive problems.  There are also a couple of products that are by prescription only that will help those with constipation-prone IBS, but you would have to talk with your health care provider about those.

    Be well.

  2. Well, it may not cure your constipation in this case but one does have to have at least a tablespoon of oil a day in their diet so as not to cause constipation.

You must also make sure to eat plenty of dietary fiber and most of your diet should be whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables.

    Good luck

  3. I have had IBS since I was in my late teens, or the doctor explained, a lazy colon. I know this sounds bad, but he told me to take a one or two quart warm water e***a every morning. I haven't had a problem since. I'm not sure about the olive oil, but do a little more research before trying it. Good luck, I can relate to your problem.

  4. As one of my boyhood friend's Jewish mother used to say, "It couldn't hurt".  Seriously, it does lubricate.  I made the mistake of eating at an Italian restaurant, dipping the bread in olive oil, getting a salad with oil and balsamic vinegar and finished with pasta with white clam sauce (olive oil again).  d**n near didn't get home in time.
