Has anyone had the Essure sterilization procedure? If so, what was your experience?

I looked into it, and eventually decided against it.  During my extensive research I found out that it carries a 14% failure/complication rate,  including expulsion of the implant, and uterine or fallopian tube puncture (perforation) during insertion.  I also found out I wasn't a candidate because I'd had PID and I'd had a uterine perforation from an IUD about a decade previous.

    Also, it is not immediately effective; you have to wait at least 3 months and have an HSG test to see if your tubes are 100% blocked before relying upon it as birth control.  And unlike BTL (surgical tubals) it is NOT reversible.

    Also, there are no long-term efficacy studies because it's not been on the market all that long.

    I strongly recommend that you do all the reading you can about the procedure before you decide on it.
