I went for an ultrasound thinking i was about 7 weeks. Well i didn't see a baby and when she did the u/s vaginally she didn't tell me if she saw one or not and that i probably didn't get pregnant when i thought. so i figured i was about 4 weeks. Then later that day i get a call that the doctor didn't see a heartbeat and put me on bed rest until September 9 when i get another u/s. I don't understand whats going on and why they haven't checked my hormone level. He had to see a baby to not see a heartbeat, right? Could the baby have been in a bad position? Someone please help if you know whats going on.

  1. i can understand how stressed you are...call your doctor and ask them to do blood work prior to another ultrasound.  As horrible as the thought is, your progesteron levels will drop dramatically before your HCG levels indicating a miscarriage.

It is possible your dates are out, however at 7 weeks they can normally see a baby and a heartbeat...even at 6 weeks they will see a fetal pole.  My sympathies are with you if things go bad as i lost my baby at 9weeks, but the us revealed a 6 week fetal pole with no heartbeat.

Demand to know what is going on...and maybe see another doctor if you are not satisfied with the results...good luck and my thoughts are with you

  2. they should have taking a blood test. when I was pregnant a few months back and had a miscarriage they were suppose to give me a ultrasound to be sure that I was indeed pregnant in the first place and they didn't and I was pissed so I understand where you are coming from. Maybe they are give more time for development. You are in my prayers!

  3. I'm sorry for what you are going through. Your Dr. should have mentioned more, it sounds like your Dr. has diagnosed you with a threatened miscarriage since they could not find a heartbeat. You should be able to hear a heartbeat between 6-7 weeks with a transvaginal ultrasound. They more than likely are waiting until September 9th, with the idea that you may not be as far along as you thought and that they will be able to see a heartbeat. You could request a blood test, but in order to find out what is going on you would need to do 2 blood tests 48 hours apart to see if your numbers are increasing or decreasing. I'm not sure if your Dr. office is open on Saturday or not, but if it isn't you more than likely wouldn't have accurate results until September 8th. I will keep you in your little one in my thoughts.

  4. Well I'm not sure what is going on but your doctor should have certainly told you all the details of what he did or didn't see.  I would call him back and get the whole story...it's your body...you have the right to know!

  5. hi there, i had my first u/s with this baby when i was meant to be 6 weeks, they couldnt see a baby an i returned the following week and there was a heart beat and baby is fine, it was just to early to see. this happens sometimes if you ovulate late and conception doesnt occur when you would have expected. i hope this is what has happend in your case. good luck

  6. You poor thing - you must be so stressed. The only advise I can give you is to ring the Doctor's surgery back and ask whether a baby was seen or not. It is not fair to you to have to wait for another 6 days and not know what is going on. Make the phonecall and don't be satisfied until you have an answer. Best of luck.
