I'm about to begin my 5th cycle of clomid(100mg days 3 thru 7). My doctor says that if it hasn't worked after this try then he will up my dose to 150mg for three additional months. But I have heard that if it hasn't worked after three months it propbably wont. So I was wondering if anyone has had successess after several cycles of clomid? Also what are the best days to have intercouse after finishing clomid? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone out there trying!

  1. My dr reccommended  no more t han 6 cycles with out a break.  I got pg on  my 3rd cycle the first time with my oldest.  I tried 6 cycels the next time- no success.  I moved onto follistim and gonaril injections and had twins.   are you seeing a fertility specialist?  150mg is a lot.   I would take a break for a month or two before resuming the clomid cycles- also have you husband/partner tested.  It turned out that my hubby had a low sprem count.  we didn't find out until after 4 rounds of clomid.  we always bd'ed every other day for 10 days starting on the last day of clomid.

  2. My sister was on it for 9 rounds before she got pregnant.  They had to go up to 150 mg for it to work.  My doc told me you should ovulate 5 to 10 days after your LAST day of taking it.  Make sure you are timing BD and ovulation close to the same time.  Best Wishes.

  3. I did 4 months of Clomid (I think 100mg).  I was ovulating on my own, but having unexplained secondary infertility with low progesterone in the luteal phase, so I was prescribed Clomid.  Months 1-3 I ovulated 5 to 6 days late.  I had been ovulating on day 14 or 15, but with Clomid I ovulated on days 20 or 21.  (Clomid was taken cycle days 3-7).

During month 4, I didn't ovulate.  (I had been double checking with OPK's and BBT's).  My doc said some women become "immune" to it; it quits working.

They switched me to Femara (an oral drug similar to Clomid), and I got pregnant on cycle #1.  AND I ovulated closer to normal, around cycle day 16.

I highly suggest checking for ovulation by using OPK's and charting your BBT's.  Do NOT assume you will ovulate on day "X" with clomid.

    Good luck!! Baby dust!

  4. I only had three rounds, and then my doctor said we would move on to something else. I did 150mg the first cycle, 200mg the second, and 250mg the third. I ovulated the second and third cycles, but did not get pregnant.

I'm surprised they have you on it for that long without increasing the dose. Are you being monitored to see if it's working for you? are you doing OPK's or charting temps? You need to know if it's making you ovulate at all, otherwise you could just be wasting your time.

If you're seeing an ob-gyn, I would recommend that you ask to be referred to a fertility specialist.
