flat heads and three eyes, with skeletons on the outside of their bodies. This kind of reminds me of the Sea Monkeys they use to advertise on Bazooka bubble gum wrappers. But this is being offered from a co. listed on line as www.collectionsetc.com and is advertised as Aquasaurs Creature Habitat. Is this a joke????

  1. are they like this

  2. It's a tadpole shrimp.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triops_long...

The species evolved before fish, so they lack defenses against fish predators (they have a hard shield over their head, a carapace, however, their soft, delicious abdomen and double tail hang out the back of it). Therefore, tadpole shrimp live where fish don't -- in temporary pools and puddles of water. The problem is that the pools dry up, so the tadpole shrimp lays its eggs in the dirt, which often stays moist enough to allow the eggs to hatch the next time it rains and the puddle fills back up. Their eggs can get fairly dry and work well to distribute mail order in kits like the "Aquasaur" (which technically means 'water-lizard', and is completely wrong) or the 'Triops' kit posted above (that is part of their scientific name and comes from their three eyes).

These guys are about an inch long, bigger than a 'Sea Monkey', but they only live about 3 months, max.
