Question:

Has anyone heard of George Washington Boon? If so do you know who his parents were and have sources for this?

I have been trying to find information about my ancestor, George Washington Boon, for many years. He was born February 7, 1777 in Pennslyvania and died in Holmes County, Ohio in 1857. He married Nancy Agnes Hutchison. They had 13 kids. He had three siblings; a brother John and two sisters Mary and Jane. One of his sisters married an Andrew Lee and the other married a Thomas Marshall. I know nothing else about them.

There is another George Washington Boon born in the same year as my ancestor also in Pennsylvania, but he married a different woman and did different things with his life. This other George Washington Boon was also related to the famous Daniel Boone, so lots of times I end up finding his information instead of stuff about my ancestor.

Does anyone know anything about my George's parents, siblings, or brother-in-laws? Any information is appreciated, but please cite your sources.

    EDIT:

Another tree on rootsweb.com I think you will be very interested in also shows:

Thomas and Mary Boon married 1760 in Philidelphia and had the following children:

    Mary b: 1768

    Jane b: 1771

    John b: 1774

    Thomas b: 1776

George Washington b: 7 FEB 1777 in Carlisle, PA, Westmoreland Co

    Samuel b: 7 JAN 1784

Mary Dunlap Boon died about 1788 and Thomas re-married.

    * Samuel Boon's grandfather Thomas Boon, at the age of seventeen years, left the Emerald Isle, his native land and sailed for America. On reaching this country he was sold to a man in Philadelphia to pay his passage. He became a mechanic and engaged also in farming, following the dual occupation in the Keystone State, where he married Margaret Dunlap, a lady of Scotch descent. Their son, George W. Boon was born in 1777,

Thomas immigrated from Ireland at the age of 17 and was indentured to a man in Philadelphia. He married Margaret and they produced 6 children. The oldest, Mary was born in 1768. Margaret died sometime before 1789 as Thomas remarried. The youngest child, Samuel went to live with an Aunt, possibly by the last name of Lerch.

  2. Could this be him? http://www.brittain.us/genealogy/d0006/g...

Danil Boon's family came through Barbados but this GW's ancestors come from England to PA. directly. Sadly there are no sources listed but it may give you name to lookup in the parish registers.

Our ancestor, GEORGE WASHINGTON BOON was born February 7, 1777 in Carlisle (Westmoreland County), PA

and died November 29, 1857 in Fredericksburg, Salt Creek Twp (Wayne County), OH.  He married NANCY AGNESS HUTCHISON March 4, 1800 in Westmoreland County, PA, daughter of JAMES HUTCHISON and JANE KELLY. She was born March 4, 1779 in Westmoreland County, PA  and died April 3, 1848 in Fredericksburg, Salt Creek Twp (Wayne County), OH .

GEORGE WASHINGTON BOON moved to Butler County, Pennsylvania in 1805 and is in the 1810 census (p. 120) for Crambury [Cranberry] Township, Butler County with a family of three males under 10 years of age, one male 26 to 45, three females under 10, and one female 26-45.

There is an entry in the Early Land Records of Wayne County Ohio (p.191) for a land purchase in Salt Creek Twp by George BOON on March 6, 1817. This land in Township 15 Range 12 Section 30 is now located in Holmes County. The entry also indicates that George's place of residence was Butler, Pennsylvania. George and his family relocated to Ohio probably in 1818 following the birth of their son Thomas. He was a member of the Associate Presbyterian or Seceder congregation, as it was known prior to 1858, in Fredericksburg, Ohio.

George's son Samuel was born in Wayne County in 1820 and in 1825 George is listed as a landowner of 160 acres valued at $300 in Salt Creek Twp. On May 20, 1825 during the first term of the Common Pleas Court of Holmes County in Millersburg, George BOON was impaneled on the grand jury while William HUTCHISON was an associate judge and Daniel HUTCHISON was the sheriff. George was living at Salt Creek Twp in Holmes County, Ohio for the 1830 census (p. 301, 306) and "George W. BOON" appears in the 1850 census for Salt Creek Twp., Holmes County. His birthplace is noted as Pennsylvania and his age is 73. Living with him was his granddaughter, Nancy DeHaven, 17, born in Ohio. According to "A History of Preston County, WV", George was totally blind for the last ten years of his life.

George is buried in the old Associates Burying Ground with his wife but the graveyard is in disrepair with all of the headstones dislodged by the passage of time and laying on the ground.

The Old Associate Burying Ground tombstones were transcribed March 30, 1999 by Bruce, Pam, and Matthew Sharpe. The tombstone to the left reads: "G.W. BOONE, DIED Nov 29 1857 AGED 80ys 9ms 14ds / AGNESS BOONE, DIED Apr 3 1848 AGED 59 ys 17 ds / Erected by G.M. & J. T. Boone".  (NOTE:There is a picture of the tombstone at the bottom of the page)

(This is about the 3rd time I had to do this, thanks to my IE s******g up and wanting to close on me. There is one family tree on ancestry.com that goes back at least to his 5th Great-grandparents on his father's side).

  4. I've found the same conflicting records on his parents. Most list James Boone and Mary Foulke, but the documentation is missing. I would personally contact the Holmes County Genealogy Society (there's a link to it on the Holmes GenWeb site) and see if they have records on him or a copy of his will. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohholmes/hcgs.h...

The one thing I can give you is this information from the Boone Society listing how all 5 generations tie back to the same parents: http://www.boonesociety.org/boonegenealo...
