Has anyone heard of a multi-focus lens that is multiple lens' put together?

I once saw in a technology magazine a preview of a lens that had many smaller lens' built into so that way it could focus on the entire picture and get everything, no matter the distance, at a perfect focus. It was at least 10 months ago that I saw this. I think it was a Canon but I am not sure. I tried searching for it on the internet and couldn't find anything relevant. Has anyone else heard of this and know where to find more info about it?

  1. Not by Canon (or any other camera manufacturer) but there are a few R&D projects looking into this. Here's what Stanford is up to:

    It's a bit more complex than getting everything in focus, of course. Any $50 point & shoot can do that. (In fact, on this site I'm used to questions on how to make the background blurry ;-)
