One of my ancestors has put it down as their place of birth in two censuses and I can't find it anywhere!

  1. I've never heard of a place called that in Ireland and I'm Irish.

However there is a place called Beara that was in the diocese of Ross and would have been known in Irish as RossanBeara so it might be possible that Rossenbury was either a mispelling or else an attempt to translate the name from Irish into English.

Hope this helps somewhat but as I said I'm not entirely sure. Good luck!

  2. I think the previous answer is correct.  It could have been Ross in Beara  or it could be rossinvera (think there is a place like that in Galway).

I am pretty sure nowhere in Ireland (or nowhere that I can think of) ends in bury.  That is very much an English name and I think comes from a version of borough.
