Has anyone heard of a rumour of a new 5D from Canon?

With the onset of 2008 Canon have brought out a range of new digital SLR's in their product line. These all have the latest software technology and some even with partial weather resistant sealing. With the exception of the full frame and with a zero lens multiplication,(key features I am looking for), a 450D and 40D have more features and are better value for money than the 5D...........unfortunately the 1Ds III, is just too expensive and way more than I would ever need.

  1. I've heard lots of rumors but nothing to nail down. Those same rumors were around a year ago though.

The XS was leaked with an update to DPP. It was listed as one of the supported cameras. The update was changed less than a day later to have no mention of the XS. Canon doesnt want to have the sales of the 5D drop, but people are getting antsie.

    EDIT:

It's not bellow Canon to announce a "tweaked" version of something as new. Take the 430EXII flash for example. Touted as new, but there are very few differences from the current 430EX. "It's silent", oh boy!!! Works a little better with some of the new bodies. But other than that its the same flash, only spendier.

  2. Since Nikon has released the full-frame D3 and its lower priced full-frame D700, expect Canon to upgrade the 5D to be competitive with the D700.

Sony will be releasing a full-frame sensor DSLR before the end of the year. It might be worth waiting to see what features and benefits - and price point - it will offer compared to the 5D and D700.
