I personally wouldn't reccomend  ancestry.com, simply because although it is helpful, it is not ENTIRELY free, and you have to pay to see some information.

As far as building the tree goes, i would reccomend a free program called MyHeritage Family Tree Builder.

As far as researching the tree goes, i would reccomend a free website called www.familysearch.org.
