  1. I was sent one of these letters as well.  What did you do?  Did they send you a cashiers check?  I am afraid to cash the check.

  2. All of these are variations on the "advance fee fraud" scam.  If you reply, they'll tell you they need "a few hundred (or thousand) dollars" for taxes, fees, bank charges, whatever.  If you do actually send the money, then something *else* goes wrong, and they need MORE money.

You'd think that people would wise up, but thousands of people have been taken by scams like these, and lost lots of money.  They're so blinded by the big payout they're expecting to get that they suspend their skepticism and common sense.

  3. only check it out if you have entered in any contests recently

  4. Did you find out if it was legitimate? I was told I won money also. Would like to know what you found out.

  5. They are not real.  Fortunately, I am, so send the money to me.

  6. I just got one of these letters today also.  Check included for a legitimate company near me.  I was planning on returning the check to the company on Monday during normal business hours or turning it into the bank that it is said to be from considering there is one of those banks here in town.  Should I not do one of my mentioned ideas and call the BBB instead.  What is the best route?  I already showed our police the letter and check and the check fooled them.  They said it was real document.  Goes to show how slick these scammers are!

  7. Yes.  I recieved a legitimate looking check for $2750.  The bank of Origin is Fifth-Third.  I took the check in and asked a few questions.  They believe it is a fraudulant check, but can't nail down how, so they are investigating.  E-mail me if you need further answers. info

  8. if they are asking you to send money it is a scam

  9. A lotto will NEVER find YOU to give you money; unless you bought a ticket or participated in some other way in a draw than it must be false. If they ask for your social security, driver's license, credit/debit/checking account numbers, then its for sure a scam. If its by email, then its most likely a scam.

  10. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/aler... its a scam

  11. You can contact altantic lottery corp, they are the atlantic cda portion of the big lotteries.  they will adivse if they are part of their organization, but these guys dont generally contact you to let you know that you have won.   You can check with the corporations office to get information on the company and their owner ship and address.   My opinion, is it is a marketing gimic

  12. Did you enter their lottery? No one gives you free money. I they want some of your money before they give you your money it is a scam.  Throw their letter in the trash.

  13. If you didn't buy a lottery ticket, you haven't won.  These things are scams.
