Question:

Has anyone heard of using birth control pills to get pregnant?

My aunt had a history of not being able to get pregnant. Her doctor put her on birth control pills and had her take them, then stop them. I guess it was to shake up her ovulation schedule. This was 40 years ago or so and she's not around any longer so I can't ask her. Has anyone else heard of this?

  1. I've thought many times about asking this question.

Because it seems like it would make sense, eh?

Hmm, I'm going to go ahead and say yes I've heard of it being possible before.

  2. yes as it can regulate your cycle and improve it which gives you more chance of getting pregnant once you stop taking it.

  3. The body can experience something known as 'rebound' fertility after birth control pills are stopped. Ovulated is stimulated and the body is more fertile than normal.

IVF clinics sometimes give women a few months on pills before starting treatment to take advantage of this rebound fertility affect.

  4. Yeah, my mum has the same theory. I suppose it's a way of regulating your cycle and getting your periods to be very regular. However, it could take a while for the pill to come out of your system. I haven't tried it though, so I don't have first hand experience.

  5. Yes! It happened to me!

I was on Depo birth control shots when I got pregnant with my son. I was extremly suprised and couldn't believe that I was pregnant. I carried him to term and he's 9 years old now!

I also got pregnant about 2 years ago while on BC pills!!! Sadly we lost that baby at 20 weeks due to other problems.

Since then we've been TTC #3 with no luck. I'm not on any form of BC and haven't been for over 2 years now. I've been having some problems and found out that I have Stage 2 Endometriosis. That affects your ability to conceive naturally and its tied to your estrogen levels.

So in retrospect, I discovered that when I was on BC, it was blocking my estrogen levels which was keeping my endo at bay and allowing me the ability to get pregnant easier. Now that I've been "natural" for so long, the endo has flared up again and giving us problems with TTC #3.

If we don't get pregnant this cycle, we will probably go back on BC pills and see what happens from there! It sounds weird and counterproductive, but it worked for me before!
