Question:

Has anyone here been to a lifecoach?

I'm in a rut and feel i'm wasting my life doing nothing. I have an excuse for getting out of everything.

I'm considering going to a life coach to help point me in the right direction but i'm a bit sceptical about professional advisors... i'd need someone who would lay it all out in front of me and pretty much tell me what to do.

I was wonering if anyone had been to a life coach about their career and how helpful they actually were - i don't need a listener, i need someone who will command me with my interests in mind.

What happens during a meeting? Was it worth it?

What alternative are there?

Thanks

  1. I have had a good coach and a useless coach. Ask about their qualifications, and their philosophy of coaching.  If you don't like them, it won't work out.  They should let you interview them at no charge. If you don't like them, you can get a new one.

  2. What makes you think that a Life coach is anything other than someone with a quick intelligence and a glib tongue? Nothing to stop you calling yourself a Life coach.

  3. nope, but given your situation I think that you could benifit from them.

  4. Hi there,

I am a life coach. I found this question because my coaching website was mentioned as a source by one of the people who have responded to your query... so coming from the other side of the exchange, here are my two cents (or pence). Not that it matters, I am based in Canada with clients spread from Germany and Luxembourg right around to Australia.

I don't always like the use of statistics, however here is a useful one. According to an International Coach Federation survey, 98.5% of coaching clients believe that coaching is "worth the money."

From the little you said, you seem to be a good candidate for coaching - however - and this is important - most modern coaches (the better ones anyway) do not "tell you what to do" - what they do is help you discover what you have to do, and then help you achieve it.

A coaching relationship is a partnership where you are guided to tap into your innate resourcefulness. You and the coach then jointly agree on what has to be done to meet YOUR objectives. You accept responsibility for doing what has to be done, and the coach will then guide, prod, and encourage, you to meet that commitment.

As one of the other people said, most reputable coaches will happily give you a free 30 minute or so consultation. You have to "click" for it to work.

Hope this helps. Wishing you happiness!

  5. Why don't you have a meeting and take it from there.

Only you can decide if things are right
