Has anyone here been to the Papal Audience at the Vatican on Wednesdays?

I have all the information on how to get free tickets, but was wondering how the crowds were, when to line up, etc...

You certainly  have quite a crowd, but everything is well organised and the "Auditorium" where it takes place is big enough for reasonable comfort. Try and get an isle seat. The event itself can become very moving.

Clothes?  Sobre but normal every day. Ladies should have long sleeves and keep a headscarf ready, even if of late, the previous strict codes are not so stringent any more.

in the summer, the audience is out in St. Peter's square. So dress like it'll be cool in the morning, and possible rain. And it was packed. get there early.
