Me and my husband have been ttc for 2 years and still no luck. My doctor ran a lot of blood test and all came out ok. He did an ultra sound last week and found out that my left fallopian tube is block. He told me to do an HSG after my period to see what's the problem. I've been checking that after HSG some women can conceive. Does it hurts? I am schedule in 2 weeks. Please help!!!! I need some answers to anyone of you who underwent HSG. Thanks..

  1. Hi i had the HSG done around 6 monthes ago.I was given 2 rectal suppositries to use morning of appointment one a painkiller and one an antibiotic.

I didnt have any pain during this procedure at all only slight discomfort with the speculum. The HSG revealed a blockage in my left tube.

However 2 weeks ago i had a laparoscopy and dye to investigeate further and it revealed NO blockage.

My advice is to take painkellers an hour before the HSG.

And dont be disheartened by any results a laparoscopy will usually be done and hopefully correct any problems.

    Goodluck.

  2. i had my hsg test done on jul 2nd,..to tell u, i could not sleep for 2 days prior to the test fearing how painful it would be...On the day of the test too, they didnt allow my husband to come in to the test room...I was so scared...

But the truth is, 'The test is just fine and bearable'. It is just as simple as a pap test, just they put the catheder and insert the dye thru it...U just feel cramps as if u r on period. If u can bear ur own period cramps, so then, u can bear this too....Its just a matter of 10 mnts...After that i was given a pad since the dye would leak a bit,,and also they say bleeding for 2 days after that is completely Normal....I was just fine,,but had little cramps on/off for 2 days, which is also normal....

Now i got my 1st period on Aug 1st after HSG

i wish u have it done and result be very normal

    baby dust

    good luck

  3. yes very painful.  it felt like terrible menstrual cramps. arrange for a ride home.

  4. I did the HSG in December 07 after having 2 miscarriages.  My Dr. told me not to worry that it didn't "hurt" per se, but that I would feel dull period cramps.  HE LIED!  I don't want to scare you, but it hurt pretty bad.  I was screaming.  I asked the technician if it was normal for me to be in so much pain and she said that she's seen that before.  In the end, I was happy to of had the test done to see that I didn't have any blocked tubes, but it was very uncomfortable.

I'm still ttc...but as far as I know there shouldn't be any additional problems getting pregnant just from the HSG.

I hope this helps - good luck to you.

  5. I had a HSG done on Feb and I was soooo scared that it was going to be painful and it was not!! It was uncomfortable for about 30 seconds and that is it!!! I have had AF that was more painful! It was done and over with in a few minutes! I took 800 mg of advil and hour before. So I am sure that helped!

  6. I ha an HSG done last month and was scared as well. However, it is not that bad. Uncomfortable, a little and and when they rush the dye through you, you feel a slight burn less than a minute. The test is over very fast. You shouldn't worry about it. A few cramps and a little bleeding, that's all.
