I always wonder, because I don't know anyone who has. Like, the Ronald McDonald Foundation....where are all those dimes, nickels, and dollars going? Who has ever benifeted from a charity like this?

When you hear about rich and famous people donating money to housing projects and hospitals and such, I'm just wondering if anyone out there in the Yahoo Answers world ever been directly affected by any of these charities, or any public charity of any kind. Let me know your story.

  1. The Ronald McDonald House is supported by the Foundation.  When young children are in the Children's hospital for prolonged illnesses, the parents live in the Ronald McDonald House.

Make a Wish Foundation grants wishes of fatally ill children.

In our area Metropolitan Ministries provides food for families in times of need.  All year but especially during the holidays.

Oprahs Angels network has done so much for so many.

Of course, everyone knows Oprah  has built a school for girls

in Africa to educate children who would have had none.

You need to pay more attention and have a little faith that we are basically Good people.

Bill Gates donated $500 million I believe to his charity as did another Billionaire, I cannot think of his name at the moment.

Look at Brad Pitt who has donated $5 million I think for homes in New Orleans.

If all charity stopped in America, we would be a poor, sad people.

  2. when i was younger i was in a fire [apt building]  red cross helped me greatly provide emergency housing and helped with a deposit to get a new apt. gave me referrals to St vincent de Paul for furniture and houshold items.  red cross provided money for replacement of clothes, and food..

as a senior,[present] i get assistance from  second harvest[ a food program] every week.  helps me alot.........i also get assistance from a local senior program, which gives me fresh produce and when i needed a cane they gave me one...i also recieve meals on wheels......this is so helpfull for me and i appreciate their help alot

  3. Yes, I have been a recipient of a local church sponsored food cupboard. I was out or work for a while, and for a short time, I had exhausted all state benefits.

  4. I grew up in Memphis, Tn. so I know the Ronald McDonald house benefits the families of children at St. Jude's hospital. It is very real and very appreciated, at least at that location.

However, most charities seem to be mired down in costs of overhead - I prefer to give locally so I can see where all the dollars and cents are going. And I'd never give to the Red Cross since I volunteered for them after Hurrican Katrina - what a political quagmire! Yuck. It's really too bad.
