Has anyone here gone to the Olympics with ice skating?

I am writing a book for my class and it is about a girl who goes into the Olympics. I want it to be realistic so I want to state real facts. I know about national championships but where are they? I know they probably are different places but if you have been in one I would love to know where it was. Any extra info is great. Thanks to all who answer

  1. Not even as a spectator.  Do you mean a competitor or just attended the event?

I've been to Olympic events but not ice skating.  I don't live in a cold enough part of the world.

Edit: In that case, it sounds like you should be hitting the library to dig up some biographies of famous skaters.  Good luck! =)

  2. Honestly, it's highly unlikely that anyone "here" has already competed in the Olympics . . . at that level they don't need skating advice from Y!A - hee hee.  However, there are many here who aspire to get there!!

Here are some links to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships (Nationals) - hopefully that will help!

2009 U.S. Figure Skating Championships (it will happen in Cleveland, OH)

2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships (in St. Paul, MN)

2007 U.S. Figure Skating Championships (in Spokane, WA)

2006 U.S. Figure Skating Championships (in St. Louis, MO)

General info on United States Figure Skating Championships (good for info but not reliable as a source)

USFSA (official governing body for figure skating in the U.S.).

    Hope that helps!

  3. i would advise to check around the site of the competitors of people who have been to the olympics. there are a few skaters who have journals on thier site talking about their expirences at different competitions.

look further in eg. forums and you'll find many articles

also the library would have a number of autobiographies and things like that eg sasha cohen's fire on ice
