I am 33 years old and starting to see some signs of aging. I am thinking of getting a chemical peel done. However, I want to do some research on it. Thank you for any insight you have to offer!

  1. well im 14 and get them done for acne scars. the first time i did it my face was red and it it peeled a little but it made my face softer and a little nicer. i keep getting them done and they arent so bad anymore.

  2. There are a lot of different options available when it comes to chemical peels. It really depends on the extent of your aging skin problems. You are only 33, so I would assume that you don't have severe problems. A series of Alpha Hydroxy acid peels or Glycolic acid peels would probably give you satisfactory results.

If you have skin damage that can't be solved by these superficial peels then I would consider having laser skin rejuvenation instead of a peel. The stronger peels like TCA or Phenol peels can have a high rate of side effects if not done properly whereas laser treatment is easier to control and safer.

  3. I've had it done many times. Positives: I noticed my pores got smaller and my face felt so clean and tight. It looked like baby skin, after all the top skin peeled off. It takes a day or two, but it is so worth it. The esthetician will probably extract black heads and pimples too if you have them depending on what place you go to. I highly recommend it.

Negatives: some of them estheticians get all chemical happy and put too much of it on your face---the first time I had it done I think this was the case, because I couldn't keep the peel on for the full time it was supposed to be on, it burned soooo bad. THey will have a fan on your face though, and if it is hurting you too bad they will put a solution on your face that will quickly neutralize the acid, so it will stop burning. But after that I went to a more experienced esthetician, and what she did was just right. Only other negative in my experience: after going to that girl who used too much on my face, my face peeled sooo bad all weekend, it was so embarrassing! Although, even the other times I had it done, my face still peeled, it just wasn't as bad. It will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and make your skin feel so soft and new like you don't even need makeup--especially if you get one every two or three weeks for several months.
