I live in Michigan and you can skip drivers ed and wait until your 18 to get a permit and then license. Drivers ed here is 300 bucks and I turn 17 in 3 months.. so should I wait until i'm 18 and get my permit? I've already drove a car a bunch of times so learning to control a car is nothing.

  1. it depends on how badly you need to drive. if u don't need to drive yourself anywhere, go ahead and wait until ur 18, saves you money and the pain of going through drivers training. you will still have to take a driving test and writin test though.

  2. i waited, in texas its only 25 dollars to get your license when your 18

  3. Do whatever you want. It doesn't really matter either way.

  4. I would wait.  because by getting it now you will only get your license about 9 months sooner. Unless you cant stand your parents and need independence NOW.

  5. Learning to make a car go, and stop, and maybe turn corners is merely the tip of the iceberg.  It makes you a simple vehicle operator, not a driver by any stretch of the imagination.  There is no substitute for the knowledge that comes from experience, and the abiity of a good instructor to pass that knowledge on.  If you wish to live to 20, you have a much better chance it you learn properly.

  6. i took drivers ed when i was 15 and got my license when i was 16. but in your case i guess its best to wait since your gonna save your self 300 bucks...

  7. Controlling a car is not an issue. But you have to be sure to know the rules and regulations of driving. If you have a parent of friend that is willing to teach you, then go ahead. And if you think that you can read the State Issued Guide Book to driving and apply everything that you read to your driving, go ahead.

But having an impartial person drive with you and make you aware of what you do and don't do wrong is really a benefit.

Most driving test grade on a point system and if you miss to many then you will have to do the test over and over again.
