  1. Apologia is great!  It is written from a Christian perspective, so when you get to biology the child is exposed to the facts about the fossil record, and is exposed to evolution as a theory, but also learns about the scientific evidence for intelligent design.

If you prefer a secular perspective check out http://www.glencoe.com

I prefer apologia, but glencoe is good as far as secular resources go.

Oh, if you go to the glencoe site, select "Teacher" not "Parent", otherwise all it does take you on an endless  chain of links to other sites... never to the textbooks.

  2. I've used the Apologia Chemistry and Human Biology books. They are both excellent. My daughter who was not the greatest math student was still able to understand Chemistry using the Apologia books. Highly recommended!!

  3. Apologia is terrible. It is not written from a scientific perspective and is riddled with errors, misstatements of FACT and as such I would not recommend it to anyone.

  4. We love Apologia!  We've been using it for about 3 years now, it's one of the few books my son won't let me sell or lend out.  I highly recommend it!

It is written from a creationist perspective, but it also does a good job of explaining the theory of evolution as well.  It's written in a conversational tone, rather than as a dry textbook.  It also has MP3 and CD/DVDRom supplements available, which are great for auditory and visual students.

    Two thumbs up :-)

  5. My 8th grade older sister uses apologia and LOVES it. She some times tells us about her fascinating lessons or we ( me and my siblings) usually stick around when she is doing experiments. She is looking forward to going on to the next book next year, and I am looking forward to starting this program.

  6. I did Apologia for General Science, and for Biology... I didn't really care for it that much so I switched to Abeka.

I would highly recomend Abeka instead.  I took Chemistry last year with this program and loved it!
