My husband and I are outdoor enthusists and are considering to hike there while at the port of call (Destiny cruise).

If you did hike what guided tour did you take?

I appreciate your input.

  1. Dominica is spectacular for hiking, and with peaks over 4,000 feet, you'll be challenged if you all are advanced hikers.

Instead of booking  through the Destiny, go with an experienced Dominican tour operator.  You'll have alot more options, and can customize your hike.  The best guided trips are offered with KHATT's Tours--they know the island like no one else, have great customer service, and reasonable rates.

By the way, Trafalgar Falls is gorgeous, and considered a novice hike, whereas the Victoria and Sari Sari Falls trip is rated medium.  The Boiling Lake hike is the most advanced, and takes about six hours round trip.

    Have a terrific trip!

  2. We didn't hike there, but we did go on a canopy/zipline tour that was outstanding.  It's through a company called Wacky Rollers, but since you're on a Carnival ship, you'll probably have to book with the ship.

You might want to check out the "Dominica" board at CruiseCritic.com for info on activities there and at your other ports.  There's lots of reliable info and if you don't find what you want, you can post a question.  You'll have to join to post a question, but it's free.  Click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then "Ports of Call".

Don't know if you're stopping in St. Thomas, but if so, look into hiking the Linde Point Trail on St. John.  It's part of the National Park Service, is an easy hike, and leads to two nearly deserted beaches.  No facilities there at all.  You can then either hike back to Cruz Bay or continue over to Caneel Bay and get a cab back to CB.

    Have a great cruise!
