Has anyone hosted a foreign exchange student?

What is rewarding and challenging about this. what do i need to look out for. any special rules. what are some things that we should do as a family. we live in upstate ny.

I had one from Macedonia. She was so much fun.  She played sports and it was cool watching her get better has we went on.  They don't know anything about sports.  But they catch on really quick.  You will enjoy it.

I had one from Germany. We werent allowed to let them drink or drive.

I had an exchange student from Brasil in 2001

It was the best thing I could of ever did! That year I went to visit her and still to this day we are best friends/sister!

i hosted a mexican exchange student last year and it was great! she was amazing and we both learned so much. i just took her to all the places that i thought was interesting, introduced her to everyone, got her a cute american boyfriend! haha.

ask her about everything and she will want to know everything about you and your real culture. dont try to make things different at your home just be normal. and always help them with their english :] that was a good night!

of course their is a language barrier and they dont always have a grasp on our rules and culture but they catch on quick. from what i have seen.
