  1. I actually just got home from a trip to Scotland. I was there for nearly 7 weeks and I am completely hooked. The weather wasn't too bad most of the time but one should be aware that just because a day starts out sunny it doesn't mean it will stay that way for more than a few minutes, and the same goes for days that start out overcast or rainy.

The food is different, but most of it is really good, if a bit on the greasy side. Deep fried pizza, chips (fries), fish, meat pies, haggis (yuck), black pudding (yuck squared), and fritters, are all happily served at the local chippy. Indian and Chinese food are common as well and personally i could eat my own body weight in Indian food.

Both the natural beauty and the amazing history of the buildings and ruins are completely breath taking and i spent the whole trip absolutely floored by how much there was to do and see. Add to that the Scottish people, who were incredibly open and friendly, and i couldn't imagine a better place to visit. I would suggest trying for a rather extended visit since there really is more to see than could possibly be seen in a couple of weeks.

My only bad feedback to the whole experience was the U.K. customs. Unfortunately i was met with a bad experience there, i was treated like a criminal because i have spent most of my adult life caring for my elderly parents and so didn't have enough of an incentive to return to America at the end of my stay to satisfy the customs officer i spoke to. Because i didn't have my own house or a full time job waiting for me they decided that a person like me couldn't afford the trip and therefor must be up to something. I was allowed in the country for three days and then had to leave but friends of mine contacted their local MP and got my case tied up for a month and a half so luckily i got to stay long enough to thwart the system and enjoy my vacation in spite of them.

Overall i would definately suggest the trip to anyone who has a love for beauty and history and just a really nice laid back lifestyle. A great tip would be to take good shoes, a good camera, and a sense of adventure!
