what i wanted to know..the 9500 gs is ok, but i've read that people that want to update, say to a 9800gts, this pc is very crowded inside and diffacult to replace. I'm preety much a novice...all I know is I want to be able to play some demanding (pc requirements) video games like Cryisis. When I bought this pc 8/12/08, Crysis ran fine untill i installed the 60 free trial of Norton internet security...which i think i will remove and install Avast...but Crysis really slowed down. I've read that ant Nvidia GS cards are basically mid range and used primarily in laptops. So. bottom line is this pc has a intel quad 2.66 ghz proc, 6gb ram and runs most games ok. But those who want to update the video card say the inside the pc is crowded. any thoughts..thanks so much foe responding. Steve

  1. no. but Ive installed lots of video cards on lots of computers. what do you want to know?

Yeah the 9500gs not a great card for crysis.

Really the only consideration is the space and the power supply. The current ati range are quite narrow compared to the nvidias. They also offer a lot more bang for your buck.

I havent seen anything about a 9800"gts", I didnt realise they had bought one out(?). I can tell you the 9800gt is pretty much a rebadged 8800gt - no performance improvement offered for the additional price. The 9800gtx is not a bad card but is eclipsed by the 4850 radeon which costs less and completely kills it on performance benchmarks. the 9800gtx+ is comparable to the performance of the 4850 but costs a lot more.

So my suggestion would be to look at a 4850 (because of the width issue) and check that your power supply is 450 watts or higher.

If the pci slot next to your pcie slot is precluded, there is always the option of re-arranging your pci cards and, if necessary, swapping a card for an external alternative like a usb device.

I tried to get the specific configuration of the machine but "hpm9340fpc" doesnt yield any results on google. If youd like to post the model number, I would be happy to look into the internals and see how you'll get on with the installation.
