  1. holy ****, I think youd die.

  2. how many years would that take?  good grief...

its about 2400 miles, no joke.  2400 miles paddling around 5 miles an hour would take you 480 hours.  thats 20 days (at 24 full hours) of paddling non stop and not considering the ocean currents and waves.  add in time for resting and a lot more time to account for the ocean that will fight you the whole way, and who knows how long youd need.  im guessing 6 months?  hard to say.  youd definitely need a boat to follow you though.  youd just be committing suicide to leave on your own in a kayak.

  3. probably not successfully - they would have a 99.999% chance of dying before they got even close - unless of course, it was a water-fueled jet propelled kayak of some sort - but even then. :p

  4. Shockingly, yes, someone has. Ed Gillette kayaked alone from Monterey, California to Maui, Hawaii in a 20-foot kayak in a little over 63 days, with no support boat. It was an extremely difficult and arduous voyage; after only a few days at sea, he reported that his backside was covered with salt water sores and the skin on his hands was so chapped and cracked that he had to start taking painkillers to make paddling bearable. Please see the links below for more information about Ed's crossing.
