I took welsh up until year 10, I have seen an evening course for absolute beginners and the other one was intermediate level

I can speak a little welsh, but am much better at reading it.

would I be more suited to the intermediate level?

and has anyone studied it at evening class before, If so what was it like?

  1. I am beginning to learn Scottish Gaelic.

  2. I learned Welsh when I was a small child, it's my first language. For that ignorant 'jonbonj' (I bet he's monoglot), 80%+ of people in this area of North Wales speak it everyday as their first language.

As to which level you are, only you know how proficient you are at it. Reading and writing are fine but to communicate you must practise speaking it.

    Pob lwc efo dy wersi.

  3. h**l there must be two people out there who can speak it.

  4. Try the intermediate. If you already know the basics then a beginners course will be pretty dull for you.

  5. I as Rolyn am from an area where 80% + speak the language daily, Come To Glanaman in Carmarthenshire and tell everyone here Jobblah di blah that only two people speak it!, Infact why not tell the 800 000 people in Wales today that only 2 of them speak it, I'll visit you in ysbyty.

Dim ond ti all ddweud pa mor dda yr wyt ti mewn iaith, Os ti'n deall hwn cer am "intermediate"

    Os na cer i "Basic"

Try this it's good could test  you'r proficiency

  6. It is quite hard to find a course at just the right level, but in your case you should go for the interrmediate level one. You would find the absolute beginners course too frustratingly basic for your needs. If you are good at reading Welsh, then you have probably absorbed more vocabulary than you realise, and what you need to do is loosen your tongue and apply it. The students of the intermediate class will probably be a mixed bag, with their own strengths and weaknesses, and you will have fun and gain confidence. Adult evening classes give people a chance to learn in a friendly and unthreatening situation and you will have a roomful of people to learn with, laughing at your own mistakes along with other people's. One of my family attended such a class and "athrawes" insisted on addressing everyone as "ti", which made for a very friendly atmosphere.

  7. Speak to the people doing the course and see what they think.

I'd love to learn Welsh, if the course is in or near Bristol i'd be really chuffed if you could send me  a link for the beginner course!

  8. I'm afraid I can't help you with Welsh in particular, but, from my experience with foreign languages, it is crucial to start speaking. What also matters is the listening - find TV and radio programs, movies, songs, etc. Grammar and writing could come later.

In my opinion it is great that Welsh work on preserving their heritage. a******s who thing only 2 people speak some language deserve nothing but a spit on their faces.
