Has anyone lived or currently live in Germany?

Question

I am looking into moving overseas and heard Germany is a very welcoming place. Has anyone ever successfully moved to Germany or anywhere else in Europe without being in the military than can offer any help?

Why you would leave your wonderfull  country and go to a tiny small crowded place like here??

I lived there for 3 years. My husband was stationed there. (Army) However, there were a lot of civilians who lived in Germany and worked on post. I would suggest doing this at least for the first few years you live in Germany. If you get a contract or GS job with the Military, most of the time they will pay for your moving expenses. Once you are over there for a few years and you learn the language and culture pretty well, then you can move on and get a job with a German Company. Several of my friends did this to get their foot into the door of a German Company and it worked for them. Good Luck!

Despite what Daniela D says, Germany is a wonderful place to live! I would suggest trying a foreign exchange (Austausch) program. You can apply through various universities, or through iie.org (Fulbright program).

I am getting ready to go back to Germany (I've already done the foreign exchange program, now I'm doing the Fulbright thing- English teaching assistants have great opportunities in Europe), and I'm really excited about the change in lifestyle.

Germans, and many Europeans really, have a much healthier lifestyle than Americans do. I lost a lot of weight and felt great last time I was there! :-) Viel Glueck!
