Has anyone majored or minored in anthropology?? what is it like?? is it fun or boring?

I majored in anthropology and loved it. However, if you aren't planning on becoming an anthropologist I can't imagine why you would chose to major in it since you'll have to get a graduate degree to actually get a job in anthropology (especially if you want to teach). Figure out what you want to do for a living and pick your major based on that. This will make it much easier to get a job in your chosen field.

why yes.  well not me personally, however, my girlfriend is finishing up her phd at university of texas at Austin.  What she does is the notion of body movement via hand and foot postures in baboons.  it is an evolutionary reseach.  is quite interesting and UT has a great department.

It's fascinating, every aspect. My major was cultural anthro and I minored in philosophy. I'm primarily interested in how belief systems evolved. I've spent most my time studying and interpreting cave/rock shelter drawings in West Texas. However, the work I've done was strictly voluntary. I've had extreme difficulty finding full time and well paid jobs. It's a blast, but keep in mind you're going to need a job when it's all said and done.

it depends on the class and the professor teaching it. i hated my biological anthropology courses, but enjoyed the archeaology ones.

I'm half way through doing an anthro major. Its very enjoyable. It has helped me to learn to look at my culture objectively

very interesting and lots of fun if you're into the subject or field.

prepare to be unemployed or get a marketable major.

easier to be a player in the NFL than get a job as an anthropologist      a job that pays a living wage i mean.

I have my 4 year Honors B.A. in Anthropology and it was very fun to learn, but the very sad part is that it is extremely hard to find a job with an Anthro degree...unless you get your MA or PhD.

Anthro is great....I've studied it as a minor and there are many aspects too it....language, customs, beliefs of peoples and groups of society..or what makes society...

Anthro of education is studying about teaching in classrooms and teaching different cultures.....for example Native Americans in mainstream classrooms do not do well because of the competition  factor....

Medical anthro is also how to approach peeps of different cultures in medicine....for example....Amish going to dr. and getting diagnoised becomes a collective decision....

The Deaf in american have their own culture and is a sub culture of amercian culture

That depends on you.  If you are a science person, you could study physical anthropology.  If you are more of a social science type, then try cultural anthropology.  Both are interesting, but I prefer physical anthropology.  I think it's more fun because of all of the recent findings and the scientific testing you'll get to study, but that's just me.  Either one can be fun if that's what you're interested in!  Good Luck.

I took it as an course in the medical school, thought it was interesting, I still follow it through. The news with the new jaw bone found near Leakey's site, connecting "Lucy" to an earlier age.

Anthropology is what you make of it. I think it's always interesting to learn about other people.

Usually students restrict their studies to certain cultures

Anthropology majors do get to go ut in the field and spend time in the culture they are studying.

However, It's one of those jobs where you have to solicit grants for your pay. So if you don't want to write grant requests for the rest of your life, you might consider teaching anthropology.

MA and PhD in Archaeology, which is a subdiscipline of Anthropology.  Like the first poster said, it is what you make of it, as with any subject be prepared for some very interesting things, and some stultifyingly dull things as well.  I love archaeology, but don't have too much interest in cultural anthropology.  The cool thing about archaeology is that it uses so many methods from other sciences, that there is room to employ expertise in chemistry, biology, economics, geography, geology, physics, etc.
