Considering a temp. stay, possibly 3 - 6 months. Any info would be helpful on what to bring and how to go about it. What kind of documentation I would need, etc.

  1. My wife and I moved to Belize about 18 months ago and are now permanent residents.  Belize is an easy country to visit especially for a short period of time.  With your passport you can enter the country as a tourist as long as you have a return plane ticket.  Each month you need to visit the immigration office and extend your tourist status for another month - when we were doing it about a year ago it cost $25 USD for the first six months and then increased to $50 USD after that.  While you are here as a tourist you can not do any work - even as a volunteer.  If you want to do more volunteer related service then you have to use another type of visa - I think it is a Misionary Visa - which allows you to do volunteer activities.

Other then the above the people in Belize are fairly casual and it is very hot - so bringing casual to dress casual clothes will get you through almost any situation.

Food - you can eat without worry.  No one in the family has gotten sick by eating the normal food here.  The water is a different story.  Most folks here drink water from a bottle and it is good to follow that practice.

That is about all that I can think of at the moment.  If you have specific questions just let me know and I will try and answer.

Good luck and have a great trip.
