Has anyone noticed that a lot of stories being displayed here for critique contain a girl having a crying...?

episode?Whenever a piece of the writing is shared its some girl crying or having a meltdown. I dunno,am I just imagining this?Where are the strong women?

  1. It does seen like most of the female characters are melodramatic and moody, which makes sense, considering the people writing them are mostly teenage girls. And before everyone gets angry at me, I'd like to tell them, I AM a teenage girl.

    If you are looking for a strong female main character, you should read The Hero and the Crown, by Robin McKinley. The third sentence begins, "She was beyond having to blink back tears...," and she actually has a real reason to be upset. Besides that, she earns the name "Dragon-Killer!"


  2. Strength. Is Not. The ability to stop tears. Or to stop meltdowns. That is denial. But Strength is having these meltdowns and growing from them. Which most of the time, the characters do.
