Question:

Has anyone noticed that nature isn't natural?

I work at a resort that takes pride in all the nature that is nearby for all the city people to look at. That's cool and all, but the truth of the matter is that nothing there is natural.

We have armadillos, but we "control their population" because they tear up the flowers that we planted. We stock a pond with bass for people to fish, and we pick up all the leaves underneath the planted trees to make it look cleaner. I think the place I work is pretty and all, but I don't like it when people say they like the nature when everything they see is manipulated by the people who work there.

Doesn't this seem kind of funny?

  1. nature is never natural as long as humans are interfering. i wish we would leave the world alone. global warming will destroy us all!

  2. Most people today are city dwellers who have an idealistic, distorted view of nature. And that is the nature that they want to preserve. They think it is all cute and nice and clean and people are just polluting it. If they even think about storms or volcanoes or predators killing prey or parents killing their own offspring or any of the countless other horrors of nature, they think of them as rare aberrations and not "really" natural and maybe even the fault of people some how. So I am not surprised at all by your statements.

  3. Very true. There are even many "wilderness areas" that I would hardly call wilderness at all. The legal definition of wilderness is purposely worded so vaguely  you could designate almost any forest in the country as such. It reads : (1) generally appears to have been affected primarily by the forces of nature, with the imprint of man’s work substantially unnoticeable. It doesn't matter if it was logged or farmed in the past. The state "wilderness areas" near me contain Scotch pine plantations! Scotch pine! Not only does this wilderness have perfectly alined planted trees in rows, the species itself is non-native and slightly invasive. Thats real wild...

  4. Quite ironic.

It's like that everywhere.  The problem is everyone has their own image or what Nature or natural is.

We have natural areas that are filled with invasive species, feral cats and non-native birds, not to mention the rats.

Is there really anyplace that has not been impacted by human activity?

  5. because they didnt know...but now they do

  6. Nature and Resort, Park, Retreat are in different necks of the woods..

    .

The Purpose of that is to prevent 'accidents'.

    .

    Yet, I agree with you.

EVERYTHING is natural, arn't humans natural? therefore what we do must be natural. take a beaver, he goes around the forest  picking up sticks for his house. ferrets clean everything around them. we're no different from the rest of the animals. everything they do and we do is natural.

  8. I've noticed the same things!! There really isn't any natural nature left, pretty much everything is regulated because there are some who believe that forests wouldn't survive if we didn't "tidy them up"

I've always hated cutting the grass or raking the leaves 'cause I couldn't see the point, when our lawnmower broke down one summer the grass grew nearly a foot high, eventaully it got cut, it was horrible, in the short amount of time the grass was left to itself it had become home to hundreds of crickets, grasshoppers, mice, spiders, ants, and a dozen other insects, as the mower cut it's straight lines they were all trying to flee the blades, it was horrible!

  9. yes after you told to me i have observed it and it is true
