I am interested on how you might go about or get information about teaching a 7 year old child at home (UK)?, it is only a temporary measure - as waiting for a placement at another school and this would be with 'SATs' in mind.

many thanks for any useful info.

  1. We home educate at home ....

But I would warn you to start home educating will mean you probably enjoy it so much you wont send your child back to school!

Its easy enough  ...  join your library for a start! Check out what you would like your child to learn.  You may find the national curric very limiting.   The best place for advice isn't here funnily enough as the majority of people here dont home educate, its advisable to join a support group.  I am in in called HEDNI and they are great for info.

And thinking about SATS they are not the be all and end all - they are purely a govenrment measure that the schools use to draw in more kids - they dont reflect the wide and varied education that your child should be getting.  Some schools get so caught up with these exams that they spend their classes training the kids to pass exams rather that teaching them.

At home your child will learn so much more.

  2. Get in touch with your local education authority they should have all the information you need and be able to provide advice that is relevant to your area and circumstances.

  3. I don't know about requirements in the U.K. but in the U.S. we have an association called the Home School Legal Defense Association,  and maybe they can provide more information, or a contact for you.  Good luck.

  4. Hey

In the UK a lot less people homeschool, but you can do it. The best way to find out is word of mouth, tell people what you are thinking and they may say... ' Oh my neighbor has a friend who homeschools' then try and get in contact that way. We homeschooled a little in the UK but don't live there anymore. Sorry.
