  1. Total time, from planning to finalization: about four and a half years.

Research & decisions: about 6 months

Application & homestudy: almost a year

Waiting for a match: a little over two years

From placement until finalization: a little over a year

  2. My wife and I adopted domestically (US) in 2006.  Our adoption was a best-case-scenario and took nine months.  Our agency told us it commonly takes one to two years.  Prepare for two years so you will not be disappointed.  Feel free to e-mail with specific questions, I will try to help if I can.

    Good luck!

  3. It depends on whether you live in a state with a shortage.  A quilting friend was on the waiting list for a year for a newborn.  However that baby went back to the parents after 2 months of legal wrangling (baby should have gone back immediately at the request of the natural parents IMHO).  They did get another baby a few months after that.

  4. We adopted via a church group and it took us around a year to be approved and go through all the processes but we got through it and were blessed with a three day old baby boy.
