Has anyone out there set up there own bakery?

i am thinking about setting up my own bakery business is there anyone out there with any advice or experience?

  1. Bakeries run on old well established models that require long hours (night work) high investment to get costs low enough to compete and because they are low cost items its high customers with low average order. Products have a short shelf life and wastage can be high. Really need to know the business inside out and might be better finding a bakery that supply you to resell first as a trial. Saves a lot of risk.


  2. I worked for and was very close to a hard working bloke who did and he failed abysmally! Go for something which is high profit. How many cakes and loaves of bread do you have to sell to make - let's say - a grand a week?  On the other hand; how many diamond necklaces do you have to sell a week to make the same amount?........Don't make your life hard work!

  3. dont do it it is very expensive and for very little return you cannot compete with the big boys .and the hassle from the health dept will drive you mad
