Has anyone patented and/or invented something?

I have an idea that is not in the market right now, how do I go about showing to the industries? What are the procedures? Do I patent it first or show someone thats knowledgable to see if its worth patenting in the first place? But then again, I don't want my idea stolen.

Go speak with a patent lawyer.  

There are many different things to patent, based on what it is you will need different things for the patent.

An idea is very vague so if you don't want to be more specific speak to a lawyer.

Depending on what it is you want to market.  You really have to have a good presentation set up for it.  You should have grids, boards and charts set as your introduction.  You should also do like some kind of video on how it would turn out.  You know like some sort of graphic design project.  Also, have a business card prepare with your name, number.  Come up with a name that represents the business you want to do. :)
