  1. I would avoid long distance purchases at all on craigslist. The difference between ebay and craigslist is that on ebay you can verify the person's history before buying. On Craigslist there is no verification system.

Unless you are able to see the car or have someone you KNOW go see the car I would stay far away.

edit: I want to clarify that offers to use an escrow service is a sign of fraud.

Offers to ship cars are ALMOST ALWAYS fraudulent when they are on craigslist and if they offer to ship a car and use a escrow service. Stay far away!!!!!

  2. Craigs List is easily one of the safer sites out there, you shouldn't have any problems with it, just keep in mind that it's an individual basis.  All the people posting things are individuals and just like ebay, they can stretch the truth.  Make sure you know for sure what you're buying.

  3. Well, there are some long distance ads on craigslist that are legit, but i just think it is easier for a person to exaggerate the truth or for it to be a scam because its not as easy for the seller to see the car. The buyer would have to travel far to see the car. It would a lot easier for the buyerr to see the car and meet with the seller because it is local.

Try to avoid buying a car that isnt local or not to far away. It isnt always a scam, but there is a higher chance for it to be a scam. And, if the seller wants you to pay via Western Union, some money transfer thing or some escrow thing, then dont continue with the purchase because it is probably a scam.

  4. Offers to ship cars are most always frauds...SCAMS.

Craig's list is full of them.
