  1. You can't just jump into a masters level science program without any background in the subject.  They begin with advanced courses already assuming you've spent 4 years studying the subject.  If you want to enter at the masters level, you'll have a lot of coursework to make up as a non-degree student before you can successfully apply - check out the websites of a few schools offering the degree to see what they expect of applicants.

  2. I agree somewhat with the previous answer - but don't let that hold you back. Do you like geology? Did you take a undergrad course and like it? If your motivation is strong you can do it.

Geology is a nice science - while it uses the "hard" sciences (physics, math, chemistry) it is also a descriptive natural science. Geology often attracts students that aren't that fond of the hard sciences.

After a first year of engineering Itransferreded to geology - 25 years latter I'm happy I did. Funny thing is I became a specialist in mathematical geology - my heart took me there. I did a lot of upgrading in my career days.

You will have to do some upgrading but if you are passionate about it it shouldn't be the difficult. Good luck.

ps with your strong arts background you could consider the law - it can be an interesting career. But then you'd be a lawyer - people don't make jokes about geologists and generally seem to like them.
