  1. I strongly suggest going with a professional rafting company if you want to raft the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. I rafted down the Canyon myself, with a group of friends who had been rafting guides, for 14 days, and it was very hard work, and way too exciting for me! But the off-canyon's were beautiful, I did hike to some fantastic ledges above the Colorado River, swam in the mud bath area at the confluence, swam in Havasu creek (you need at least a day to hike up to Havasu Falls and back and I'd already done that on a backpacking week long trip to Supai Village, right above Havasu Falls), swam in some hot springs above the Canyon wall that you can jump off right into the Colorado River (I did it, and naked to boot!). Hmm I guess there were some advantages to going on our own trip.

    Have fun!
