If so, which book would you recommend as a first read. I want to check out American Gods first but I'm not sure if its as good as the others. (4 /5 vs. 4.5 of 5 on amazon costomer review)

  1. I started out with American Gods, and was immediately entranced! It's a great mix of genuine humor and the dark fantastic. I recommend following up with Anansi Boys, which is somewhat tied to the plot of American Gods. I think once you read AG, you're sure to become a Gaiman addict!

  2. Preludes & Nocturnes. Sure, it's a graphic novel, but it's awesome.

  3. American Gods was the first Gaiman novel I read and I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I followed it with Anansi Boys and Neverwhere, but they didn't capture me like AG did.

I've finished Vol 3 of The Sandman graphic novel series that he co-wrote and it's amazing.

I keep meaning to read Good Omens, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  4. I read American Gods recently and loved it.  A good one to start with I think!

  5. If you want a good cross-section of his writings, I recommend one of the anthologies. "Smoke and Mirrors" is one that I pick up regularly.

Otherwise, my favourite is actually "Good Omens", which he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett, followed by "Stardust" and "Neverwhere". Both of the latter have been filmed, with varying results.
