Has anyone read the book the pearl by john steinback?

Question

well there are two words in the book and i have to put it in a sentence. i will first put the sentence of the word then the other 1.

(1) "they knew his ignorance, his cruelty, his AVARICE, his appetites, his sins."

(2) "it captured the light and refined it and gave it back in silver INCANDESCENCE"

the capitalized words incandescence and avarice are the two words i dont get.If you know what they mean in the sentence then plz help me make a sentence for these two words .

Avarice means greed.  Incandescence is a bright light given off by something, often although not always associated with a high temperature.

I just recently reread the Pearl.  Avarice mean greed (so the sentence is basically listing his negative traits).  Incandescence means shining, brillance, glowing--so the sentence means the pearl took the light it received and shined it back out even more brilliantly.  They are lovely uses of words.

ugghhhhhhh that was the most boring book ever.

Because of his avarice, he was not willing to help the homeless.

The metal gave off great incandescence.

Aarice - insatiable greed for riches; inordinate, miserly desire to gain and hoard wealth.
