I live in the USA and the future here looks dim. Any Americans out there that have made the move? Would you recommend it?

  1. well even before you mentioned the usa's 'dim future' I should let you know that Perth in particular has quite a large ex-pat american population.  as I understand it the numbers have been growing for some time.  Sydney also has a large expat american population.   obviously we must be offering something worthwhile.

    try some of the following;

  2. I visited Australia for 2 weeks and enjoyed my experience.   I didn't get to Melbourne but really enjoyed Sydney.  I think I could live there.

    My spouse researched moving there and completed the survey to find out if his profession and our family had enough points to count as desired immigrants.  We were right on the cusp and I think our age (40's) hurt our chances.  I hear immigrating to New Zealand is the way a lot of people get into Australia, because NZ's immigrations rules are much more liberal, and if you're a resident of NZ, you can come and go from Oz nearly at will.  (you'll need to check this).

    my impression of Brisband and Sydney were really good.  I found shopping quite different and eating out is a different experience.. condiments are NOT given out freely, if you want ketchup it's given in a ramekin and costs $2.  lol.

    The cabbies were all really nice, the cabs were all clean and all in all it was a very pleasant experience.  Australians love American accents, by the way.

    There's much more, I"m sure, but this is all I have time for.  Know their water shortage is really burdening the population.

    Hope this helps
