Just a little skeptical to the procedure, has anyone had any experience with them, positive or negative?

  1. I can't help you as far as a "renter" but I own a vacation cabin that I advertise on homeaway. It's a great site to both advertise and find a vacation rental.

I understand you being skeptical. Just research the vacation rental you're looking for and don't be afraid to ask questions. You can always cross reference most telephone numbers as well as the property address on the property appraisers site (in the town/city the vacation home is located in). That will at least give you peace of mind that the person you are dealing with does own the home.

I haven't heard any bad stories (knock on wood). Homeaway is a PAID site! We pay to have our vacation homes on their site and homeaway has all our information (home addresses, credit card, telephone numbers) so with that, I would feel comfortable.

I will be honest with you. We "owners" do worry too that the person we are giving our keys to will treat the property as their own and not destroy it or steal things.  I will always email information (rates, policies, etc..) because I like everything in writing myself BUT I also have to talk to the person to put a voice to the emails for both our sakes. We both have to feel comfortable.

Again, talk to the owner and make sure you feel completely at ease with them. That's a huge thing.

Hope this has helped somewhat.- Good Luck!
