  1. ive took a v8 down to four cylinders on a pice of testing equipment that could kill cylinders but we could not get the whole right or left bank the had to very left and right or it would stall.probably differs for motors with different firing order. ford 302

  2. u cant go from 8cyl to 1 i cant be done but could go to 4cyl taken the even the out but still you wont have a perfect riding with the engine going to miss the stroke which could bring the critical damage to your engine

  3. yes it can be done, the cadillac northstar engine engine does it in the event of an over heat situation. it shuts of the fuel and ignition to a bank of cylinders, one set at a time. the air flow through the engine is enough to keep the engine from burning up.

dodge i believe has a similar set up to eliminate the fuel to two or four cylinders at a time to reduce the fuel intake and improve fuel economy. i am unsure how they get around the sever miss feeling though.

  4. It can't be done. It will misfire and cause a lot of problems. The only way you could run a V-8 on 4 cylinders would be remove the plug on the even numbered cylinders so there would be no compression. Even then it wouldn't run very well.

  5. I did once by accident.  I forgot to hook the plug wires back up.  Darn thing ran like c**p.
