Has anyone seen anymore news on former NASCAR tracks banding together to start a new racing series?

I had read early last year of a rumor that tracks that NASCAR has turned it's back on banding together to begin their own racing series. Has anyone else heard anymore on this? It included Rockingham and others. Several current and former CUP drivers expressed hope for it to get out of the politics that's become so much of NASCAR now.

  1. Other than the fact that the first race in what, three years, was held at Rockingham about a month ago (an ARCA race), I know nothing more.  Keep us updated if you find anything out - they did a great job with Rockingham.

  2. Bring back The Rock, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Arca for sure and they are trying to get some others races, go to their new website:

    Rockingham Raceway Park.com

you will be able to see all events and news about the track on its way back!!!!!

  3. That would leave out Fontana Darlinton Daytona Homestead Kansas Martinsville Pheonix Talledega Watkins Glen, the France Family controls them. So I guess that would mean Sonoma and Pocono are going to rise up in solidarity knowing full well Bruton Smith is aching to buy a track so he can move a date to Kentucky.

  4. Even if a new series was established it would fail horribly. France has all the drivers and tracks, unlike CART did in the mid 90's.  Kentucky's best bet is to hold its own individual race in the off season or on an off weekend and have a ridiculous payout with a ton of entertainment (bands, etc). They could run the older car or the COT. Kentucky would get some TV broadcasting and a decent fan turnout, while guys like Ken Schrader and Tony Stewart would be definites and maybe even more!

  5. I heard something about last night at work from my supervisor. Its suppose 2 be a southern racing series with tracks including Rockingham, North Wilksboro, South Boston and a few other tracks I cant remember

  6. I've read that also and that talk has been around for a few years now.  NA$CAR is going to make tough, they havent long bought out CASCAR in Canada to try to hold other organizations back from building up.

I would love to see a major stock car series that ran on dirt and asphalt.  How awesome would it be to race at The Rock, go to a dirt track, then race at Wilksboro, then go to another dirt track and so on.

I personally think that NA$CAR needs a rival, the biggest key there will be getting "name brand" for lack of a better term, drivers.

  7. Rumor mill churned this out last year.Several tracks that wanted a 2nd date as well as some new tracks that wanted a CUP event ,and some historical tracks that lost events ,were intrested in forming a racing series or up grading an existing series.

Other than ARCA running at the ROCK nothing has come out of the talks.

  8. There was question on Yahoo Answers that were  being asked about could it be possible if that could happen. As far as any hard facts actually confirming that anyone has intentions of doing this, there is none that I know of.

I would love to see it though.  I could be wrong though. Just I haven't heard of any good facts.
