This movie was made at a time when developmentally disabled children were routinely sent to live in institutions. The practice was becoming controversial and surprisingly this movie supports the idea of continuing the trend. It was thought that parents wouldn't be able to handle the stress of raising their kids themselves and society wouldn't accept these children.I just think the movie demonstrates how far we have come in how we treat children with special needs. Has anybody seen the movie? It stars Burt Lancaster and Judy Garland.
