Maybe someone's heard about this, but I haven't heard anything on the news. Does anyone think this is a significant issue?

  1. of course it's significant.

all of the science on global warming indicates that there will be instability, at a minimum, around the world.

but why haven't we heard more?

could it have to do with the Bush administration's denial that global warming is a problem?

and the fact that everyone in the pentagon reports (indirectly) to Bush?

that would seem a reasonable excuse to me.

  2. No, of course not.  The Pentagon prepares for all worst cast scenarios.  It's their job.

They even have plans to invade Canada.  Even though these plans will never be used, it would be irresponsible not to plan ahead.

  3. Queue Bob with a question that acutally fits one of his stock answers.

The top brass want more funding to react to the consequences of global warming.  Aparently they need hummers, tanks, rockets and stuff like that to do so.

(edit) Bob, you have some funny ideas about how politics works and generals are certainly politicians.

You also say that they don't need any more equipment - I thought that was the one and only point of their presentation.  I must have missed the part where the generals said "Heck no, we don't want any more funding.  We just want people to car pool."

  4. It was an important report and made the news at the time over 3 years ago.  Most people downplayed it since the U.S. DoD is another rat's nest of left-wing idealogues intent on destroying America.  Bush was correct in ignoring it.

  5. There have been several such reports.  Here's one of the more recent ones.

    News article at:

    http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/storie...

There's a reason why the IPCC and Al Gore got the Nobel "Peace" Prize.

The above report was done by an extremely distinguished panel of retired military officers who don't need any military equipment.  Accuse General Zinni of lying for budgetary reasons and you'll be dealing with a lot of very angry Marines, who revere him and know his unblemished reputation for honesty.

  6. Dr. J hit on this:  The pentagon is always planning for any sort of danger to the U.S.  Just because they have a plan for aliens attacking Washington D.C., doesn't mean it will actually happen.  Also, the Pentagon is not "all-knowing" of threats.  Clearly illustrated by the fact that they couldn't even protect themselves from a plane hitting their own building.  Don't take the word of the Pentagon as the word of God.

  7. no sorry

  8. What I'd like to know is why anyone believes the Socialist newspaper, the Guardian, got their hands on a secret Pentagon report.

During the Medieval Warm Period, when the Earth was WARMER than it is today, northern Britain planted wine grapes and Sweden grew bananas.  The Vikings farmed Greenland.  Gosh, experience tells us that the warming was beneficial to mankind and to life in general.
