  1. Almost everyone in the tourist industry here in Hungary speaks several languages, English being one of them.

You will only find a problem buying subway and bus tickets since many of the small shops don't speak English.

You can find many language books for travelers at Border's bookstores in the states.

hungarian is very hard to pronounce for a person new to the language, they will speak to you in English or just not pay much attention to you. They don't like to waste too much time with trying to understand bad Hungrian.

I live in Budapest. Most people here under age 30-35 know English so if you have a problem look for a young person to help you out.

Outside of the city limits, many people do not speak English.

  2. If you have hard time to find Anglo-Magyar pocket dictionary, do not worry. Hungary is a small country with few people and the publishing houses aren't printing any. Once you reach Hungary but, there will be plenty of them to buy.

Just say: "En okorom vedny Angol-Magyar konyvecke"
