  2. Hi I've usually gone to sol Melia Rio Luna Holguin however this December I am also looking at Arenas Doradas in Varadero.  belowaree reviews ontripadvisor.com.  Most sounded pretty good.

  3. My three sons (ages 2, 10, & 12) and I recently spent a week here

    Highlights:

    - they were prepared for our arrival and had a room with 4 beds ready for us

    - the beach, in one word: beautiful

    - Seafari Cayo Blanco excursion is really fun!

    - curly tailed lizards are everywhere! Travelling with 3 boys made this the highlight of the trip!

    Lowlights:

    - reception staff are downright RUDE! On several occasions I was ignored while standing directly in front of them.

    - some of the staff are great but unfortunately it's not the norm

    - the posted times for resturants, towel hut, etc. mean nothing... they open when they feel like it and I actually had to have them call the towel guy to come and give me fresh beach towels because he was an hour late opening the towel hut!

    - I wasn't expecting much in terms of food so I wasn't exactly disappointed but a little bit of variety would have been nice. Going to Cuba was a great diet.

    - the pool tiles were literally falling off and the pool was full of mold. On our 3rd day they suddenly closed the pool (totally unannounced) and it remained closed for the rest of our trip. We had to go to the neighbouring resort to use their pool if we didn't want to swim at the beach

    - the rooms are fairly basic but we were constantly bit by mosquitos all night long (even with bug spray on!). One morning we woke up to a 2 inch bug of some sort (?cockroch?)

    - the grounds of the resort are really run down and aside from the pool closure, you don't really see anyone maintaining them

I haven't travelled a lot by any means but I have stayed at some really nice places in the past and unfortunately this wasn't one of them. Perhaps my expectations were set too high because of my previous travel destinations. However, we all work hard for our money and if you don't want to feel like you've wasted it than you may want to consider staying somewhere else. I hope that helps!

  4. No. It is ONLY for foreigners. We Cubans are not allowed to stay there

    To Jc22ny:

Well, we Cubans are not very happy about the fact that foreigners come to our country to enjoy the good things that we cannot enjoy. It adds insult to injury, the fact that you have many good things that you display while we are practically starving and facing lack of the most basic things

Don't complain. When you return, you go back to your good life whereas we have to stay living in the mud

Think about that next time you go to Cuba
