If so, details please!! I am planning a cruise with my girlfriends, however, some of us are not able to travel until September. I've been reading about hurricane season and contemplating if we should still take the risk of going to the Caribbeans and Miami in September. This will be everyone's first time on a cruise and to both destinations. Any information would help! Where to stay, go and party in Miami. What to do on cruise and on the islands.

  1. I've sailed the Caribbean several times during hurricane season.  Never had any problems, but you do take your chances going in late summer or fall.  We got two free days on one cruise because we had to kill time waiting for a hurricane to pass so we could come into Ft. Lauderdale.  You wouldn't even have known there was a hurricane while we were at sea, although coming into port in FLL was rather rough.

The cruiselines have sophisticated weather information and can very well avoid any storms.  You may miss a port because of a storm, or be delayed, etc.  You may even get some high seas and rain.

For lots of great info on cruising, go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards".  You may be particularly interested in "Carnival Cruise Lines", "Ports of Call", "First Time Cruisers" and "East Coast Departures", among many more.

My tips:  Don't use cruise line air or ground transfers - you can do better independently.  Fly into Miami the day before your cruise, just so you have plenty of time in case there are delays.

    Have a great cruise.

  2. Hi, we take our cruise every year in September, a couple of years ago I learned that those huge ship do have the ability to speed when the radar picked up Hurricane Opehelia.  We did not experience anymore than a little rain and we arrived in Nassau ahead of schedule so we spent more time on the island that anticipated.  It is great, we have rented motorcycles and road all day to the other side of the island.  You didn't say which islands you were going to Nassau has the best party life (if you are on the cruise that requires you to be back on the ship by 7:00a) jazz, reggea, hip-hop all kinds of clubs.  There jet ski-ing and shopping in the straw market,

I go on the same cruise every year, buy some Dramil and take it before your flight if you feel like any one might get sea sickness.  I don't know because I always take it.  The Disney has a night life and MGM does as well. I can't remember where we went.

  3. I went on the Carnival Cruise in late August. I loved it! The weather was beautiful, there was all you can eat foods, booze and cruise (I got drunk my first time there LOL), they also have casinos (if you're old enough), clubs, and more! It's a great experience. Just waking up every day, going to breakfast, oh and at dinner they kept bringing out the lobster for us (I dont' like lobster)...I don't know if they did that because we were Filipino cuz the workers were.

    It's definitely worth it!
